Cowen makes a big splash
of more than 130 swimmers in the annual Trunk Island swim on Sunday afternoon.
Cowen took 19 minutes 21 seconds to bridge the gap between the Harrington Sound island and Palmetto Bay -- a distance of approximately a mile -- as he stroked his way across the finish line some 40 seconds ahead of veteran swimmer and coach Duncan Newby.
Schoolteacher Newby clocked 20.03 to win the over 40 age group with triathlete Michael Bouchard finishing third in 20.15.
First female was Annette Budge, a triple gold medal winner at the recent Latin American and Caribbean Masters Championships held in Barbados.
Budge was the fifth swimmer to finish in 20.17 just a second behind fourth-placed Craig Ferguson, a member of the Bermuda national team.
The team award went to Sharks club.
