Sailors still in medal chase
CAC Games, but both remained well in contention and capable of claiming a medal.
And the Island's gymnastics team grabbed a creditable fifth place in the team event.
In sailing's Laser Class, Brett Wright ended the sixth race of the regatta on Sunday in sixth place, a drop of one spot on his position the previous day.
His wife, Sara Lane, also dropped a place, taking her out of the bronze medal position to fourth in the Laser Radials.
Results from the regatta near Punto Fijo, in Falcon state, are arriving a day late in the Games capital of Maracaibo, an hour's flight away, and when they do arrive it is simply in points form with no breakdown of individual races.
However, Brett's points total suggests he enjoyed a better day again on Sunday, after falling dramatically on Saturday with perhaps one bad result.
He added just five points to his overnight total, implying placings of third and second or fourth and first in Sunday's two races -- figures that would match his impressive showing of the first day.
And with each sailor able to jettison their worst result, consistent sailing from now on could enable him to make a firm challenge.
At the moment, his score of 29 points has him trailing Cuban leader Osvaldo Padron by 22. Padron is one point ahead of his team-mate Jose Urbay in the fleet of 18 boats, with Frederioc Goeters of Mexico third on 14, Frits Bus of the Dutch Antilles fourth on 22 and James Karl of Antigua fifth on 26.
Meanwhile, Mexico's Tania Calles moved above Sara Lane into third in the Laser Radials, three points ahead of the Bermudian on 12. Cuba's Marisela Duarte Sanchez and Mexico's Eliane Fierro share the lead on 10 points.
In gymnastics, Laura Murphy, Sasha Christensen, Leila Wadson and Christina White combined for a total of 101.512 points in the disciplines of vault, assymetric bars, beam and floor. Individual scores were not made available.
The gold was won by the Venezuelans -- a talented team of six girls averaging 14 years of age but all looking three or four years younger. Their joint score was 140.499.
Cuba took silver with 134.649 and Mexico bronze with 132.87 marks. Guatemala were fourth in a competition of nine teams.
