The semi-finals of the Bermuda Open Singles Championship lived up to advance billing as spectators were entertained by two matches featuring superb potting

Emerging as the winners were Steve Roberts and Brian Walker, but each were stretched by their opponents in the best-of-five frame series.

In the first match of the evening Roberts took Paul Charleton in what turned out to be a see-saw affair.

Charleton took the early initiative, seizing the first two frames and appearing on course for a straightforward victory.

But Roberts fought back to take the third game and stay alive.

Charleton looked in great shape midway the fourth frame after Roberts went in off the brown ball, leaving his opponent needing three of the last four colours to claim the frame and the match.

But Charleton failed under the pressure, potting only two and allowing Roberts to step in a claim the frame to draw level at 2-2.

The mistake proved costly as Roberts finally caught stride and easily won the fifth and deciding frame for a 3-2 victory and a place in tonight's final.

Meanwhile, Walker needed one less frame to earn the other final berth.

Like Charleton, Walker bolted into a 2-0 series lead, but in contrast he refused to surrender the advantage.

Lawrence DeSilva came back to snatch the third frame before Walker closed things out in the fourth.

The final will be held tonight at Old Colony Club starting at 7.30 p.m.
