Island's number one-ranked tennis doubles team.

James Collieson, disgusted with the play of long-time partner Mike Curry, stormed off the courts at Pomander Gate midway through the first set on Saturday against Eugene Simmons and Stan Smith.

Leading 4-3, Collieson admitted he "snapped'' and quit the match, resulting in the fofeiture to Simmons and Smith.

"It was not fair to me or the people we played against,'' he said of Curry's play.

A source told The Royal Gazette that Curry appeared unsteady and unfocused and Collieson last night confirmed his partner "had trouble even walking.'' "He absolutely could not hit the ball,'' said Collieson.

Curry could not be reached last night and a tournament spokesperson would not comment.

Curry should have pulled out rather than risk embarrassment or even injury, Collieson said.

"It was a slap in the face for our opponents; he's basically saying he could beat them like that.'' Although he says he "forgives'' him ("Mike's a good-hearted guy, a nice guy''), Collieson said he would not play doubles with Curry again.

Collieson has not spoken with Curry since the incident but indicated last night he would like to clear the air. He also called on Pomander Gate and the Bermuda Lawn Tennis Association to discuss the matter with Curry.
