Saturday when he equalised away to Wrexham to keep the Midlands club in the FA Cup.

The Bermudian, now playing in a new midfield role, equalised for the visitors in the 35th minute, just six minutes after the home team had taken the lead.

Walsall, if they get by Wrexham in the replay next Wednesday, will meet another Third Division side, Scunthorpe, in the second round on December 4.

Lightbourne scored his third goal of the season from 30 yards after a long ball forward saw the Wrexham goalkeeper come out of his area to try to clear the ball. It went straight to one of the Walsall players and when the ball sliced off his boot, it went to Lightbourne who scored.

"I think we should be able to get through if we play like we did on Saturday,'' said Lightbourne whose team are presently tied for third in the standings and are well in the push for promotion.

"We've only lost one game away from home this season, so we're doing quite well. We're really working to keep our form going.'' Lightbourne described his new role in the 4-4-2 formation as similiar to the role Frankie Ming plays at his former team, PHC. And while things are looking up after a disappointing and brief spell with Scarborough, Lightbourne is taking nothing for granted.

"It (new role) has brought more confidence in me, by going at players. I've been encouraged to take players on.

"They're not as fast as players in Bermuda and I'm using my pace to go by players. I've settled into the pace of the game here and everything is falling into place.'' Lightbourne has been boosted by an eight-game run in the first team, having played a full game on seven occasions with the exception being against Scarborough when he was substituted, having had a bout of the flu leading up to the game.

"I can't complain right now, I've had my chance and I've got to hang in there,'' Lightbourne said.

"Things can change so quickly. The captain of the team, Dean Smith, got an injury and now can't get back in the team. We haven't lost a game in the three games since he's been out.

"You can't afford to lose your place and it's keeping everybody on their toes because nobody wants to play in the reserves.'' Walsall are at home to mid-table Lincoln on Saturday.
