A report presenting ways to boost the cash-hit taxi industry came under fire yesterday.

The Taxi Advisory Committee said some of the report's conclusions seemed "far removed from reality''.

The committee sought to distance itself from recommendations in the report released last week.

The report was produced by a Cabinet-appointed committee. The focus was on easing the grip on the industry by regulations, and it presented ideas on combating chaos at the Airport.

But Taxi Advisory Committee chairman Lt. Col. Eugene Raynor said the recommendations did not "reflect the input'' to the special committee by taxi representatives.

"The Taxi Advisory Committee members find some of the recommendations to be radically estranged from the views of those in the taxi industry.

"Although most topics reported on were factual and some quite historical (15 years old), some...conclusions drawn by the technical committee seem far removed from reality.'' He said the Committee would comment to Transport Minister the Hon. Maxwell Burgess on the report.
