George's man who pleaded guilty to stealing $6 from the donation bowl in the Carriage Museum.

Gladstone Wilmot Simmons Jr., 34, also admitted violently resisting arrest.

Simmons insisted there was nothing mentally wrong with him, saying he stole the money because he had been drinking.

And he said he fought off the Police because he did not want to spend the weekend in a cell.

Prosecutor Insp. Peter Duffy said the curator of the St. George's museum saw Simmons take the money and ran down Water Street after him.

Simmons was putting the money back as the Police arrived. He again bolted, but the officers caught him.

Insp. Duffy said a struggle ensued, during which Simmons ripped an officer's shirt and scratched his neck.

Insp. Duffy said the two Police officers had suggested a psychiatric evaluation.

Senior Magistrate the Wor. Will Francis asked Simmons why he had taken the money.

"I just walked in and saw it -- I had drank six elephants and some scotch,'' he replied.

Mr. Francis ordered the reports and adjourned the case for sentencing to November 9.
