MPs set to attend CPA meeting
in political life will all be part of the mix for the Bermudian delegation at the 42nd Commonwealth Parliamentary Conference in Malaysia.
Transport Minister Wayne Furbert, Opposition Leader Frederick Wade, Shadow Labour Minister Alex Scott and James Smith, secretary of the Bermuda Branch of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association, will attend the meeting in Kuala Lumpur from August 16-24.
Consensus building when dealing with global issues and the role of the Commonwealth and its parliamentarians will be discussed.
There will also be forums at the conference on such topics as educating member nations about the role of the Commonwealth and protection for women and children from violence, exploitation and abuse.
Ways to combat terrorism in democratic societies and eradicating barriers to women in political life will also be addressed.
Prior to the main conference, a two-day conference for smaller countries will be held on August 16 and 17.
Only countries with populations below 400,000 are invited. The discussion will focus on issues of Constitutional and Parliamentary development in small countries as well as the effects of uncontrolled immigration on small populations.
