Pocketwatch sets hot pace

sound warnings to the competition ahead of the Boxing Day Stakes Races, as harness racing returned to Vesey Street over the weekend.

Eddie Roque's two-year-old Bermuda bred Pocketwatch recorded two more wins, while lowering his time to a rapid 1:16.2.

Meanwhile, three-year-old Rocket Ride added two more wins to her season's total, as did Gold Mate, who continues to perform well for new owner/driver Joe Correia.

Trott Acre, set to be driven in the four-year-old stakes by Robert Lopes, dropped her season's best time to 1:09.1.

The weekend's top driver was Bobby DeGraffe, with three wins on the day, taking two aboard Rocket Ride, and one with Gusto's Cracker Jack.

Near tragedy gripped the night's final race as two ponies went down.

Chris Roque, driving Shamrock's Formal Attire, tripped and toppled over, while father Eddie likewise fell during race, albeit in an unrelated accident.

Kenny Mills went on to take first place with Custom Eyes'd. The senior Roque was left nursing a bruised rib while Chris was unhurt. Both ponies suffered only minor injuries.
