PCC battle back for deserved tie
Netts 29-29 in a tense battle of the unbeatens in the Bermuda Netball Association Saturday League.
7-Up Netts stormed out of the gate to begin the contest. They led 18-12 at the half and looked like recording their fourth consecutive victory.
However, PCC refused to roll over, clawing back to within three goals -- 22-19 -- at the end of the third quarter.
It set up an intriguing final 15 minutes and it was PCC continuing to exert their dominance, scoring 10 points compared to just seven for 7-Up Netts.
In the scoring department for 7-Up Netts it was Carolyn Binns with 20 goals, while Kim Minors had nine. PCC's attacking tandem of Sheena Maybury and Rose Richardson registered 15 and 14 goals respectively.
Taking full advantage of the situation were AICO, who moved into sole possession of first place based on their 31-26 triumph over Cardinals, who handed them their only league loss last year.
Debbie DeShields netted 22 goals for AICO while Nicole DeGraff replied with 18 for Cardinals.
The first half saw plenty of end-to-end action and had AICO ahead 18-13.
Cardinals later defended better but were unable to step up their scoring pace.
Earning their first win of the season were Hamilton Parish, who disposed of a hapless North Village outfit 33-21, leading from start to finish.
Tina Paynter was the top scorer for Parish with 20, while Jadtheda Harvey assisted with 13.
The final match played on Saturday, witnessed Olympic Panthers administer a 32-8 hiding to Warwick Redbirds. Nyland Adams (21) and Dawn Symonds (11) feasted on an inviting Redbirds defence.
A two-horse race has evolved in the Sunday league after Netts fell off the pace following a shocking 28-25 defeat at the hands of lowly AICO.
That result combined with wins for 7-Up Netts and Olympic Panthers gave the latter pair a two-point edge atop the standings with a game in hand over Netts.
7-Up Netts had any easy go of it, rolling past PCC by an unbelievable score of 56-6. Antoinette Williams poured in 34 goals and Dawnette Smith had 22.
Panthers outlasted Running Rebels 19-17 to stay perfect for the year and in the remaining match Wolves outclassed Boulevard 25-20.
