Thompson eyes place in new soccer loop
a professional career in the soon to be formed Major League Soccer of the United States.
Thompson, who most recently played for First Division team Somerset, has been involved in tryouts for an as yet unnamed Washington, D.C. based franchise.
Thompson was said to have survived the initial cut following trials on Saturday, which involved some 100 players, most of them hailing from the surrounding areas of Maryland and Virginia.
The number was cut to 24 prior to yesterday, with the Bermudian still in the thick of things, but in some danger as the roster was reportedly due to be trimmed to around five as of yesterday.
Originally set to start in April of 1995, numerous snags regarding the setting up of adequate franchises throughout the United States have placed the start-up in jeopardy.
Also scheduled to have trials with the Washington team was Musceo Hunt, son of former Somerset Trojans coach Larry Hunt.
However, the younger Hunt's chances grew dim after a painful knee injury while playing for Howard University in a 1-0 victory over University of District of Columbia.
Meanwhile, David Bascome, currently with the Harrisburg Heat of the MISL (and a three-goal scorer in a game against Wichita) is also expected to make a bid to become part of the MSL when -- and if -- it becomes operational.
