Thompson expresses an interest in job
FA Cup winning coach Kenny Thompson is rumoured to be one of the front runners for the recently vacated senior coaching post within Bermuda Football Association.
And while the North Village coach has admitted to being interested, depending on the terms and conditions, he stressed that no approach had been made by anyone within the BFA.
At 35, Thompson is seen as one of the most talented coaches locally and would become the youngest man in the position if either the technical director's or head coaching job was handed to him.
"I don't want to say too much at this time, because no one has approached me at all,'' Thompson said before Sunday's FA Cup final with Devonshire Colts which Village won 2-1 with a last-minute goal in extra-time.
Robert Calderon stood down as head coach and Clyde Best's tenure as technical advisor also ended immediately after Bermuda's exit from the World Cup qualifier at the hands of Antigua.
Letters to Sports Mailbox last week were strongly in favour of either under-23 coaches Dennis Brown and Mark Trott or even Thompson, who coaches the Bermuda under-15 team, moving up to head coach.
Thompson, a student of the game who adopts the Dutch philosophy, has a successful programme at Village where he coaches both the under-15 and senior teams. He doesn't deny that coaching at the national senior level is one of his ambitions.
"As a coach I want to continue to improve myself and be able to coach at the highest level, and the highest level is definitely in the international arena,'' he stated.
"If I am approached I will sit back and look at what offer is being made and how it will impact myself and my family and make a decision then.'' Thompson regularly takes junior teams to Holland to play in tournaments and while there is always looking at ways to improve his coaching.
"I'm passionate about football,'' said Thompson. "I have to look at other things in my life as well and weigh those things against it. I haven't ruled it out but there are other things on my plate at this time. I think I've gained enough experience along the way where I would feel very comfortable in such a position.
"The World Cup campaign has been over barely a week so we all need time to sit back and look at what happened and then talk about what we're going to do in the future.'' Kenny Thompson: no approach yet.
