Marshall, Bermuda's top junior player, is part of a five-member Wake Forest team who are 13th out of 18 teams on 313. Georgia State are leading on 294.

Also on the Wake Forest team is Kim Tyrer, who shot a one-over-par 74, Tori Boysen who equalled Marshall's 79 total, Stephanie Neill with an eight-over-par 81 and Nicole Dorthe's 11-over-par score of 84, which did not count.

Tracy Hanson of second-place San Jose State was the early leader with a three-under-par 70. Marshall was in 49th position tied with 12 other golfers.

Leading the Georgia State charge is former US Amateur champion Vicki Goetz (72).

The tournament includes both individual and team scores and will be played over 72 holes.

"I had some bad breaks,'' admitted Marshall, who fired a 39 for the first nine holes and then a 40 on the back nine. "I was hitting the ball over the edge of the cup all day but nothing went in. It was just a case of bad luck today.''
