Fox gets task of leading Islanders
chosen to lead St. David's into Saturday's final against Flatts.
The former St. George's Cup Match captain was confirmed to the post last night ahead of both Shea Pitcher and Del Hollis.
Pitcher has been the club captain this season but when injury kept him out of the first two matches, Hollis took over the team in his absence.
Even when Pitcher and Hollis were in the team last weekend it was Fox, the player-coach, who led them in the league match against Bailey's Bay.
"Shea just came back off injury and we decided not to change it and put pressure on him,'' said St. David's vice president Delby Borden. "It was a team decision and everybody agreed with it.'' The champions have made two changes with batsman Chris Foggo away in school and bowler Rudell Pitcher unavailable.
But the batting has been boosted by the inclusion of both Shea Pitcher, and veteran Wendell Smith, both coming in for their first appearances of the season.
Smith is a surprise recall but trained with the team this week. No doubt he will fill the opening spot vacated by young Foggo.
"It's a strong team, I can tell you that,'' said Borden.
"I thought either Shannon (Raynor) or Landro (Minors) were going to get a place but they weren't in any type of form, so we decided to go with Wendell.
Plus we don't know what type of wicket we're going to be playing on.'' St. David's have named Kameron Fox as 12th man in case Clay Smith is banned at tomorrow night's disciplinary hearing over his dispute of an umpiring decision.
Team: Graham Fox (capt), Sammy Robinson, Albert Steede, Allen Richardson, Clay Smith, Wendell Smith, Shea Pitcher, OJ Pitcher, Del Hollis, Lionel Cann, Herbie Bascome. 12th man -- Kameron Fox. Res: Landro Minors, Delbert Borden Jr, Fiqre Crockwell.
