Leondre Daniel Israel, 16, of Ewing Street, Pembroke, broke into the home of Berwyn Cann on two separate occasions and was caught prowling on another.

All the incidents occurred in early February, Police prosecutor Sgt. Kenrick James told Magistrates' court yesterday.

Between February 1 and 6, Israel stole a turntable, a cassette deck and a compact disc player along with other items, together worth $655.

On February 8, he again entered the house through an insecure window and stole two Bose speakers, worth $265.

Five days later, Israel was seen standing at the door of the property by a neighbour.

Sgt. James said: "He was seen peering through a crack in the door. He said he was looking for his football which he said he had lost a few days earlier.'' Police were called to the scene and took him to his home where they recovered some of the items. On a subsequent visit they found the CD player which he had given to his younger brother.

Sgt. James said that of the total of $920 worth of property stolen, $770 worth had since been recovered. The cassette deck was still missing.

Defence counsel, Miss Belinda Harvey pointed out that Israel was still at secondary school and that this was his first offence.

Magistrate the Wor. John Judge called Israel "an obvious case for a social inquiry report''.

The case was adjourned and bail set at $500.
