Shooting Star express delivery service was nothing more than an idea six weeks ago, but it is just one week away from fruition according to managing director and store owner Mr. Eric Collins.

"My girlfriend Christine had the idea first,'' he explained. "As far as I know we will be the only local delivery service to use mountain bikes instead of cars or trucks within Hamilton.'' Armed with a cellular phone, a rain suit and a waterproof satchel, the companies' two couriers will be able to carry any package under 20 pounds around the city.

There is also an Island wide service. But it will use a car or truck to make deliveries.

Shooting Star, Mr. Collins said, will pick up and deliver packages, do mail pick-ups and deliveries as well as special hand deliveries, among other services.

Meanwhile, Mr. Collins said he would like to see his company grow to a medium size with four or five mountain bike couriers.

"I want us to stay as a specialised service, instead of growing too big. We are prepared to weather all storms to deliver a package in a good, quick, safe and cost-effective manner,'' he said.

"We are Bermudian owned and aim to compete against the other small local messenger services.

"Our official opening will be next Monday (at the Washington Mall).
