Glenn eyes national team return
to Bermuda's national squad if his services are required.
Within days of being confirmed on the list of players transferred -- Blakeney moving from Bailey's Bay to St. David's -- the stylish 27-year-old left hander revealed a number of goals he had set for himself this season including a return to international cricket.
Blakeney has not represented Bermuda since his fall-out with the Bermuda Cricket Board of Control's management team during the ICC Trophy in Malaysia three years ago.
While he had problems with Bay's management last season that saw his appearances with that club limited, Blakeney said he was now prepared to put such grievances behind him and look forward to playing.
"I'm looking for great things this season now that I intend to go out and just play. I don't want to get involved in any controversy,'' said Blakeney.
"I want to leave all of those distractions alone and get back to doing what I do best and that is playing my own style of cricket.
"Firstly, in regards to international cricket I have been away for just over two full years and I am dead serious about getting back into the squad. I intend to meet with Board president El James and discuss my position with hopes of returning this season.'' While refusing to fault anybody for rows that kept him away from national squad duty over the last couple of seasons, Blakeney is hopeful he can work with Board president James.
The player said he believed representing Bermuda should be every cricketer's priority, recalling that he took that position a few years ago when he was in England despite being offered trials with Northumberland and Durham.
"These offers were attractive and were worth considering, but they were looking for me to play in trials, and that meant that I would have had to give up my rights of going to Maylasia with Bermuda. And I opted to represent my country.
"Thinking back I have at times wondered if that was the best choice, but nevertheless I am looking forward to playing in the ICC again. I will be committing myself to getting back into the squad because I shouldn't make my country suffer for some things that went wrong with the administration.
"I want to get back into the team because of the type of bowling that I have seen in the Caribbean during the Red Stripe. I really do think that Bermuda should be able to come away with a few victories.'' On his move from Bay to St. David's, Blakeney said he bore no ill feelings towards his former club.
Skipper Charlie Marshall remains a close friend and he noted that he grew up with many of the players and was still friendly with them.
"I am pretty excited about making the move to St. David's. I think that's the best thing I could do regarding my future. I enjoyed my time at Bay, that's where I grew up in addition to spending a few years in St. David's, but most of my living has been in Bay.
"In just a short training period they have already made me feel very comfortable at St. David's. I am certain that I will fit in because those guys are a great bunch.'' Glenn Blakeney: ready to end exile and offer services to the Bermuda national team.
