Island sets record chill
temperature for yesterday's date -- barely achieving 57 degrees.
That's five degrees lower than the previous record of 62 set on May 16, 1962.
The high for that day was 80 degrees.
Meteorologist Dave Forbes said that yesterday's cold weather was primarily due to the heavily overcast conditions. Without the rain and cloud cover, Mr.
Forbes said the temperature would have climbed to 71.
Bermuda also saw a record low of 60 on Tuesday, which was lower by one degree from the previous recorded low.
The Island did need the rain, Mr. Forbes added. Rainfall for the year has been below the average of 19.07 inches but by 3 p.m. yesterday the rainfall to date had reached 18.73 inches.
Temperatures are set to climb toward the mid 70s for the weekend but residents can expect a mix a sun and cloud as the weather works itself toward more seasonable temperatures.
