Records fall in Harbour heats
Swim Championships at the BASA pool at Saltus last night.
Roy-Allan Burch, 12, of Sharks, broke the 200 metres backstroke record in the boys 11-12 age group with a time of 2:35.48. The old record of 2:36.97 had been held by Mathew Hammond since 1993.
In the 100m backstroke, Burch was again unbeatable and set a second record with a time of 1:11.70, eclipsing Hammond's old record of 1:12.76 which was also set in 1993.
Eight-year-old Elizabeth Brewin of Dolphins Swim Club was also in fine form, breaking the 50m freestyle record in the girls eight-and-under division with a time of 38.84 seconds, breaking the old mark of 39.44 held by Elisha Miller in 1990.
More sensationally, Brewin also set a new record in the 25m backstroke by turning in a time of of 21.43, breaking the 18-year-old mark of 21.59 set by Annabelle Griffiths.
