their semi-final match at Nationals tonight.

Lions captain Hastings watched the Island team's historic 13-5 win over South Africa on Tuesday night and while admitting to being impressed, doesn't realistically expect them to progress.

But he is hoping that Peter Shillingford's men can cause the New Zealanders enough problems to leave them flagging a little bit if, as expected, they meet the Lions in Saturday's final.

Hastings said: "I think Bermuda will really try their all. That's almost their final I guess. By all accounts that is the way Argentina played the All Blacks last year -- really treated it as their big game -- and I'm told they didn't have an awful lot left for the final.

"We had to work very hard for our win today against Argentina and I hope for our sakes the match between Bermuda and the All Black is equally as tough. I would hate to see the All Blacks coast through.'' The former Scotland full back added that there was great determination in the Lions camp to retain the trophy.

"We're the defending champions and apart from a couple of us -- including myself -- for whom it's our first year, they know what it's like to win. It's a very good tournament and we're keen to defend the title.''
