increase membership fourfold.

Having been voted into office on Monday, Mrs. Burgess Fairn says one of her goals is to boost membership to over 5,000 from the present 1,200.

And she is aiming to get more young people involved in the group as it prepares for another busy year tidying the Island.

Vice-president of KBB for the past year, Mrs. Burgess Fairn knows the ins-and-outs of the Bermuda litter problem already.

She has been a member of KBB since 1990, before which she lived in Halifax, Nova Scotia. A Bermudian, she attended school in Canada where she met her husband.

Mrs. Burgess Fairn is an account representative dealing with all forms of insurance at Argus Insurance Ltd.

She takes over the top KBB post from Mr. Barry Brewer.

"KBB has always been a team effort and we have a great team in place'', she said this week. "The whole team has worked together and we have had some absolutely wonderful things from Barry.

"I would like to work on the membership and I am concerned about getting membership up to 5,000.

"We are trying to encourage young people to enter the group so we can be more representative of the population as a whole. Traditionally KBB has been older, possibly retired, people.'' Mrs. Burgess Fairn noted that that majority of people who littered the Island were young and KBB's campaigns would continue to target them.

But, she added: "We have quite a few offenders over the age of 65.

Bermudians are tidy people and as they drive along in their cars, drinking a beer or a soda, they will generally throw the bottle out of their car into a bush.
