American warships stop for fuel, rest

John S. Darrell yesterday reported that the USS Halyvurton will stop at the flagship berth in Dockyard on Tuesday for fuel.

It is scheduled to leave the next day.

A crew on board the USS Grasp will arrive at the same berth the next day for rest and relaxation. They will stay until October 14.

In cruise ship news, John S. Darrell reported that both the Royal Majesty and the Song of America arrived on schedule with 835 and 1,259 passengers, respectively.

Meyer Agencies Ltd. said the Horizon arrived on October 2 with 1,347 passengers and moved to St. George's yesterday morning.

The Dreamward arrived in St. George's on October 2 with 1,221 passengers and moved to Hamilton on Tuesday. It will leave tomorrow.

The cruise ship Meridian also arrived on Tuesday with 755 passengers. It is scheduled to leave today for Philadelphia.

In news from the docks, the Somers Isle container ship arrived on October 2 with 59 containers, including six refrigerated containers and one boat. It was scheduled to leave Bermuda this morning.

The Bermuda Islander arrived on schedule on Tuesday with 60 containers, including seven which were refrigerated. It left the same day.

The motor tanker New Ideal arrived in Bermuda at Five Fathom Hole on September 30 and dropped off turbo charge equipment from Algeria before it left for New Orleans.

The cable ship Sir Eric Sharpe returned to Bermuda on October 1 after carrying out repairs -- some 700 nautical miles off the west coast of England -- to the eastern part of the company's transatlantic submarine cable to which Bermuda is linked.

Container Ship Management said the Oleander brought 97 dry containers, 37 refrigerated containers, four cars, three horses, a truck and some structural steel when it arrived on Sunday. It left on Tuesday for Port Elizabeth, New Jersey.
