of the largest drug busts in Bermuda's history.

Barbara and William Roberts appeared in Magistrates' Court yesterday where their lawyer Richard Hector announced that the prosecution had served papers to him on Thursday.

Mrs. Roberts, 59, along with her 71-year-old husband William, are charged with -- being concerned with others not before the court -- possessing $1.5 million worth of cocaine intended for supply.

The pair are also alleged to have knowingly handled cocaine intended for supply and possession of 36 plastic bags, kitchen scales and a knife in connection with a controlled drug.

Mr. Hector requested that the court roll the matter over to the middle of January so that he could study the information.

Senior Magistrate William Francis agreed and extended the couple's $150,000 bail to January 15 when he ordered that they reappear in court.

Mr. Hector will elect which course he wishes to pursue -- either a short or long form preliminary inquiry -- at that time.
