National Liberal Party Leader Mr. Gilbert Darrell said he agreed with the Progressive Labour Party that Government's election scheduling had left Bermudians studying abroad out of the voting process.

But he pointed out that when the NLP recently brought a proposal before Parliament which would have enabled college students to vote from abroad, the PLP rejected it.

"The Government and the Opposition rejected the motion out of hand,'' Mr.

Darrell said. "Neither party showed an interest...Total rejection of the NLP by the PLP is more important to the PLP than the accommodation to vote by any student.

"The NLP finds it difficult, as the Country must, to understand the Leader of the Opposition who prides himself as a moaner and bleater of issues that confront the Island and he makes no effort to correct or change them.'' PLP Leader Mr. Frederick Wade had charged on thursday that Government was depriving Bermudians studying abroad of their right to vote.

Hundreds of the 3,200 18-25 years-olds who are registered to vote were studying abroad, he claimed.

But Mr. Darrell said: "The NLP does not believe election day must just accommodate overseas students. During the summer when Bermudians travel more frequently also should be considered.''
