Party chairman Mr. Geoff Parker pointed to the losses in a prepared statement as an example of how Government was deceiving people about the true state of the Island's finances.

In this year's estimates of Government spending, the expenditure for the golf operations were "lumped together, making it impossible, without some considerable research, to determine the real financial position of each golf facility,'' Mr. Parker said.

Without properly audited statements, the people of Bermuda do not have the means to "properly scrutinise Government's ability to manage the economy.'' Mr. Parker suggested that the Ocean View building project was an example of questionable Government spending and priorities.

"How can Government justify spending another $2 million on a clubhouse for Ocean View?'' he asked. "We all know it is to fulfil a political promise.'' Mr. Parker also questioned why Government's Ocean View plans included construction of a new maintenance building "when the perfectly good old clubhouse structure could have been used.

"Instead, the Government plans to knock the good structure down. "The taxpayer really does not know what his happening to his tax dollar and the smoke and mirrors show by Dr. Saul leaves us all in the dark.'' Mr. Parker described the Finance Minister as an "expert in deception'' who used a Wednesday Press conference to "confuse the people'' on the truth behind Government's handling of the public purse.

He invited the public to a meeting next Thursday at 8 p.m. at the Marsden Church Hall in Harris Bay, Smith's which will focus on the auditor.

"Those who are really concerned about the economy of this Island and the lack of accountability should attend to hear the facts.''
