Police launch manhunt for burglar preying on women
A knife-wielding housebreaker who preys on lone women is being hunted by Police following two separate incidents yesterday.
Police were called to a house on Fractious Street, Hamilton at about 4.40 a.m.
after hearing reports of a woman screaming.
The terrified victim awoke to find a man standing at her bedside armed with a knife.
She lashed out at the intruder and screamed, forcing him to flee.
The woman sustained slight cuts to her arms and was taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital but was later released.
The burglar managed to steal a small amount of cash from a wallet before he was disturbed.
And just one hour later, a woman staying at the Pink Beach Club in Smith's Parish was woken by a burglar hiding behind the curtain in her room. Again the woman was able to raise the alarm forcing the man to flee, this time taking a leather wallet which contained cash and other personal items.
A Police spokesman said: "Obviously both victims were in a state of shock.
"One of the women did have to go to hospital for treatment to minor cuts sustained when she lashed out at the man.
"But these instances can be far more traumatic mentally than any physical injury that might be inflicted.
"Detectives are now looking into both instances. We don't yet know if they are connected but we have spoken to both women and we will be following up leads. We also have a description.
"We would advise all householders to make sure they check security at their homes.
"Unfortunately these break-ins often occur when doors and windows haven't been properly secured.''
