Dill bowls over knockout field
bowlers again crowded Warwick Lanes for another event before the league's summer break ends.
The first Dorchester Eliminator Singles Handicap Tournament saw 69 bowlers taking part and June Dill emerging as the winner.
The format of the tournament called for bowlers to initially roll three games and then, based on their handicap scores, the field was cut to 32. Thereafter, the field was cut by half in each round until Dill ousted Allan Richards in the final.
Having survived all of the rounds, Dill's determination helped her outbowl Richards with a score of 235 to 216, picking up a cheque for $500 for her efforts. Richards pocketed $275.
Other prize winners were Janice Binns, Lionel Dowling, Chris Leverock, Steven Harvey, Yvette Swan, Quinton Hayward, Steven Riley, Lynn Ford, Carl Reid, Conrad Lister, Bobbie Ingham, Maryann Wilson, Leroy Ming and Kenneth Ford.
Meanwhile, starting this Sunday, the Island's top bowlers begin their attempt at qualifying for the FIQ World Championships to be held in the United Arab Emirates next year.
