Club's door smashed in man's fit of rage
fit of rage cost a Devonshire man $300 in Magistrates' Court.
Sgt. Peter Giles, prosecuting, told the court that during the early morning hours of July 1, Brian Christopher Estis was escorted out of the Oasis Club in the Emporium Building after arguing with other patrons.
While walking down the stairway, Estis extensively damaged a fire door by slamming it against a wall, in full view of the club's staff.
Members of Oasis management followed him on to Front Street and called two Police officers to the scene.
While making their inquiries, the officers saw the First Avenue resident throw a pack of cigarettes on the ground, then stamp and kick it. He was asked twice by the officers to pick up the cigarettes, but he refused.
The 26-year-old was arrested and taken to the Hamilton Police station, where he denied all knowlege of the incident.
Sgt. Giles said that Estis had since paid the owner of the building the $710 needed to replace the door.
