St. Lucian-born writer Derek Walcott was awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1992.
He has written more than a dozen books of poetry and more than 30 plays including "Omeros'' and "The Dream on Monkey Mountain.'' In addition to the Nobel Prize, Mr. Walcott has been honoured with numerous awards including the Obie Award, the Rockefeller fellowship and the Heinemann Award for verse.
Mr. Walcott's work addresses themes of cultural synthesis and racial tension within Caribbean society.
The West Indian Association of Bermuda will be staging a production of his play "Remembrance'' on November 6-7.
Several events are being arranged including a reading by Mr. Walcott on November 7.
