on Tuesday.

Instead, the entire school will be hosted for two days by the Salvation Army and Seventh Day Adventist Church while teachers complete academic preparations.

Acting Minister of Education Jerome Dill made the announcement yesterday and said although extensive school renovation work would be completed, students would not be allowed on the premises.

Government has spent some $6 million on the summer-long project to extend and re-furbish the school.

"Unfortunately, as the school is going to be ready to open on Tuesday, and as the teachers are entitled to two days of preparation... the teachers will take those two days of preparation on Tuesday and Wednesday and be ready to receive children on Thursday,'' he said.

School improvements will continue into the fall with a cafeteria expected to be completed by late October and a gymnasium which will be built later, said Works and Engineering Minister Jim Woolridge.

On Tuesday, students in the M2 and M3 classes are to report to the Seventh Day Adventist Church Hall on King Street. M1 students are expected to attend the Salvation Army facility on North Street.

Renovation work to the St. Mark's Pre-School on Mount Hope Lane, Smith's is also behind schedule, said Mr. Dill.

The pre-school was also originally slated to open on September 8, but will now open on September 14.
