Playing at home for the third straight league match may not necessarily give Police an advantage as their two previous losses were on home soil.

But if Police are to make a serious challenge in the championship race this is one match they will have to win. The month of May brought them much heartache but maybe June will see a change of fortunes.

Bailey's Bay have already sent out early warnings of their title aspirations with five straight wins. Their only loss this season was in the Camel Cup final where they went down to Western Stars, but few would argue that they look serious title contenders.

Their bowling has been led this season by Clarkie Trott, Terry Burgess, Noel Gibbons and Jermaine Outerbridge with Trott the leading wicket-taker with 17 dismissals and Gibbons second on 13.

Burgess and batsman Ricky Hill, both returning this season from Hamilton Parish, have failed to make significant contributions so far but with the West Indies Board Select tour coming up both will be looking to hit form at the right time. Burgess has 10 wickets so far this season while Hill, who has missed three matches, has a high score of 14 from five knocks.

Police have had no problems scoring runs (277 against Somerset Bridge and 254 against Devonshire) but they have not been able to defend such large totals in their last two outings. Both teams possess enough batting to suggest another high-scoring match.

A slip-up by Bay would open the door for St. George's to take over sole possession of first place. Tomorrow St. George's travel to White Hill field to meet unpredictable Somerset Bridge who have had a good start to the season with three wins from five matches. Western Stars and Willow Cuts, third and fourth on eight points, should not have too much trouble with Warwick and Hamilton Parish -- two teams in the bottom four and with just one win between them.

Warwick at are home against Stars at Southampton Oval while Parish entertain Willow Cuts at Wellington Oval.

Six teams are bracketed on six points and ready to take advantage of any slips by the top four. Southampton Rangers are away to Social Club, Somerset are at home to a Flatts team who have had some encouraging results so far, including last weekend's win over St. David's, while Cleveland meet last-placed PHC.

Devonshire Rec. should be favoured over St. David's at home in the other match. Rec. have broken out of their slump with good wins over Western Stars and Police while St. David's have still not found first gear, having picked up just one win in five matches to slip to fifth from bottom.

New St. David's captain James Pace will be going up against his former Devonshire Rec. team-mates but can expect anything but a warm reception.

FIGHTING FORM -- Ricky Hill, left, and Terry Burgess -- two men Bailey's Bay are looking for more from.
