Town eager to get back on track

favourites Dandy Town will tomorrow line up against North Village who handed them a similar 2-1 loss in the Martonmere Cup three weeks ago.

In this feature match at St. John's Field tomorrow, Town's coach Mark Trott will have to find a way for his players to shake off the after-affects of these unexpected setbacks and focus on the task ahead -- primarily improving their finishing touch.

But Trott is not about to push the panic button, pointing out that Town's players are aware of their problems and will endeavour to move swiftly to correct them.

"The important thing is that the players have to remain focused on what we are trying to achieve,'' said Trott. "Those matches that we have lost, unfortunately we came out on the short end of the stick. But there were enough positive points in the games, things that we discussed this week and they now need to take those good signs and try and make them work against Village.

"Of course, we are not pleased with the defeats at the start of the season.

One should always be concerned about losing. But you become more concerned when you're not sure what the problems are. Fortunately we know what the problems are and our hope is that the players will try to rectify things and do what is needed to help us get a positive result.'' While the coach won't admit as much, Town's main concern is with the attack where formidable strikers such as Carlos Smith and Darron Simons have yet to find their scoring touch after causing opposing defences plenty of trouble with their speed and dribbling ability.

With the talented Damon Ming doing likewise behind the front two, Town srill haven't been able to find the net as often as they would like.

Village coach Kenny Thompson has already shown how he intends to concentrate on blending young players into the team and so far his approach has been rewarding. But it would be a surprise if they managed to sneak another victory over Town this time around.

At BAA Field, Devonshire Colts are favoured over PHC whose young side were beaten 2-0 by Hotels on Thursday night while at Southampton Oval, the home side, might do well to hold newly-promoted Hotels.

Tonight's First Division match-up at Somerset has Vasco taking on Boulevard at 9.00 p.m. following a Premier Junior battle between Wolves and Boulevard, starting at 7.00.

Boulevard were decisively beaten 3-0 by Vasco in the opening round of the Martonmere Cup three weeks ago, a game they were forced to play with 10 men after Stevie Wade was sent off early.

But this time Boulevard, whose coach Herbie Bascome is touring Jamaica with the national cricket squad, are more concerned about their goalkeeping shortcomings with both Mitchell Steede and Andre Hendrickson making critical mistakes in recent matches.
