a New Year's Day altercation.

The woman told Police she visited the 33-year-old Hamilton Parish man at his Cottage Hill residence when she and the man's girlfriend -- allegedly armed with a walking stick -- had a fight.

Police spokesperson Evelyn James Barnett said the ex-boyfriend intervened in the fight and allegedly beat his ex-girlfriend with a stick as he forced her out of the house.

The woman said the man also struck her on the head, causing it to bleed.

In retaliation, she allegedly smashed the rear driver's side window of his car, left the scene and called Police.

The woman was later taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital where she was treated and released.

Police arrested the man and took him to St. George's Police Station.

Mrs. James-Barnett said a separate investigation was to be conducted on the alleged wilful damage to the car.
