Nomination day is set for Friday in the Town Hall from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. If one of the five town councillors is appointed, another election will have to be held to find his replacement.

"I understand that some of the common councillors are giving serious consideration to the post,'' Mr. Hayward said.

The common councillors include Mr. Shirley Gibbons, Mr. Randolph Dowling, Mr.

Jimmy Williams and, serving their first terms, Mr. E. Michael Jones and Mr.

Ross Smith.

A replacement is being sought for Alderman Mr. Ronald Smith who has served the town for many years but is being asked to stand down because business trips have kept him away from Bermuda for lengthy periods.
