Waltham stretches top seed in final
final of the Bermuda Open table tennis championships at Elliott gym on Saturday.
Waltham produced superb table tennis for three games to put his heavily favoured BAA team-mate on the brink of defeat.
He took the first and second games 21-19, 21-18 and led in the third 17-14 before Frost produced a dramatic fightback. Frost clawed his way back to win the third 21-18 and then closed out the match 21-12, 21-12.
Earlier, in the first round, Rawle Frederick had upset fourth seed Hasan Durham 19-21, 21-13, 21-14, while second seed Corey Berkeley, who was injured, opted to play doubles only, defaulting his first round match to Calvin Butterfield.
In the doubles, the two singles finalists Frost and Waltham teamed up for a comfortable victory, beating Berkeley and Durham 21-12, 21-14, 21-5 in the final.
Hard hitting Myron Piper had his back to the wall in the consolation final, falling behind to Philip Hackett 18-20 in the deciding game, but he fought back to clinch a 14-21, 21-17, 24-22 victory.
