Man received stolen goods
stolen property.
Robin Stovell, 31, of Vesey Street, Devonshire, admitted receiving a $380 gold signet ring and a $495 silver Kreiger watch sometime in February.
The property was found on him when he was arrested for another matter, Magistrates' Court heard. The owners, when traced by Police, had not yet realised the property was missing.
Stovell said he bought the items not knowing they were stolen. Senior Magistrate the Wor. Will Francis said he would give him the benefit of the doubt, and sentenced him to four months in prison for each offence, to run along with a jail term he is already serving.
Fishing in a protected area cost Philmore M. Trott a $100 fine at Magistrates' Court on Friday.
Fisheries officers spotted Trott a mile inside the South West protected area on September 2, Crown Counsel Mr. Brian Calhoun told the court.
The fisherman had a line, baited with squid, from the stern of a boat. Trott, who admitted attempting to take fish in the area, said: "I got mixed up with the date. When I saw all the fish traps going up I figured the area was opened up to fishermen. I was only there for five to six minutes.'' He had thought the area opened on September 1, he said.
