Pacy Carlos the toast of the town

Dandy Town now stand alone in first place, as the only team with a perfect record in the First Division after notching their third straight win yesterday at Frog Lane field, a 3-2 decision over Devonshire Colts.

A highly-entertaining match greeted fans in attendance. It was one that saw Town twice take the lead through speedy striker Carlos Smith only to have the home side come back to tie -- once through Joey Weeks and again with Mark Ray.

However, substitute Darren Simons appeared just in time to slam the door shut on Colts with a third goal to which they had no answer.

The day though mostly belonged to Smith, as he shone bright with his tremendous pace enabling him to get behind the defence almost at will and it was only the superb goalkeeping of Colts' Antoine Lightbourne that kept the scoring to a minimum.

Smith announced his presence in the sixth minute when he drove a weak defensive clearance by Colts inches wide of the right upright. And moments later it was he again causing problems, this time shooting high following a cross by Devarr Boyles.

In between those chances, Ray presented team-mate Ellington Weldon with an opportunity inside the six-yard box, but the latter could not connect.

Colts, showing little urgency in their game, would pay for this ineptness in the 16th minute and fittingly it was Smith applying the finishing touches.

A throw-in on the left to Paul Cann witnessed the diminutive forward crossing to the near post and finding Smith, who rose high and thundered his header past an exposed Lightbourne.

Town continued to dominate toward the interval although failing to add to their tally.

On the other side, it was clear Colts would have to make changes and coach Lorenzo Symonds did just that in introducing Craig Smith and Jay Bean, seeing his first action of the season.

The moves appeared to spur the lethargic Colts and in the 67th minute they drew level as Weeks pounced on a short clearance by Town 'keeper Ricky Tucker, firing first time through a maze of players.

It took just two minutes for Town to respond and again it was Smith sprinting from near the halfway line past his marker before settling on the target and placing a firm drive past Lightbourne from 10 yards.

Action was frantic at this point with Town seeking to consolidate, while Colts again sought to equalise.

The second equaliser came after 72 minutes as Ray produced a scorching right-foot drive from 20 yards that rocketed past Tucker into the low left corner.

Colts were finally laid to rest as super-sub Simons finished off a move started on the right side by Cann that had the latter crossing into the middle to Kris Martin, who drew Lightbourne and then slid the ball back for Simons to tap into an empty net.

"They refused to die out there,'' said Town coach Mark Trott of his men, who have surprised with their early form. "All glory and praises go to the Dandy Town players.

"They wanted to get to get this monkey off our back where Colts have been a bogeyman team and today we did it.'' Devonshire Colts: A.Lightbourne; L.Hypolite, J.Samuels, D.Wright, K.Burchall; M.Ray, H.Trott, D.Williams (J.Bean, 45 mins); J.Weeks, E.Weldon, Q.Aberdeen (Cr.Smith, 45 mins).
