sentence after he admitted in Magistrates' Court this week to possessing $850 worth of cannabis intended for supply.

Senior Magistrate the Wor. Will Francis remanded Glenn Alexander Burgess in custody until February 10 for a social inquiry report.

Burgess, of Tribe Road Warwick, pleaded guilty to possessing a joint, 34 bags and a paper twist that all contained cannabis intended for supply on June 21, 1994.

The cigarette contained .31 grams of cannabis, the paper twist contained .37 grams of the drug, while the bags weighed 26.6 grams.

Police estimated its total value at $850.

Despite lengthy bail submissions from Sen. Larry Scott, Senior Magistrate the Wor. Will Francis remanded Burgess in custody.

Burgess had admitted possessing the cannabis, which was found at his house and in his possession in a Police interview on June 21, prosecutor Sgt. Donald Grant said.

Sen. Scott urged the court to release his client pending the completion of a social inquiry report -- which could take six weeks.

But the Senior Magistrate rejected these submissions in light of Burgess' guilty plea.

Mr. Francis pointed out that the offence was a serious one since the drugs were intended for supply.

He added that public sentiment toward the drugs trade must also be considered and remanded Burgess in custody for a social inquiry report on February 10.
