Gomez drops PLP complaint
One Bermuda Alliance election candidate Sheila Gomez has dropped her complaint to police about alleged “bullying and intimidation” by a Progressive Labour Party volunteer.
A Bermuda Police Service spokesman said on Monday: “The Bermuda Police Service has received a report regarding the encounter. However, the complainant has requested no further police action.”
Ms Gomez claimed Anthony Santucci, former chairman of the PLP, ripped flyers from her hands and verbally threatened her as she canvassed in Warwick North Central before the General Election on July 18.
The Opposition said: “No assault took place, no threats were made and Mrs Gomez was handed back her campaign flyers.”
The PLP said yesterday that Ms Gomez’s decision to take no further action suggested her original complaint was an example of the OBA’s cynical use of “fake news” to distract voters from the real issues.
Ms Gomez is up against the PLP’s David Burch, a former Cabinet Minister, in constituency 27.
