victory over Mike Curry at Sonesta Beach yesterday.

Way, seeded number one at the Sonesta Beach Tennis Classic, continued his winning streak against Curry by racking up his fourth consecutive lifetime win against the tournament's second seed.

The victory all but guarantees that the Davis Cup player will hold onto his number one ranking with one tournament left to play this year.

Donna Bradshaw, competing in her first tournament since returning to the Island after a year's absence, sewed up the women's title with a 6-2, 6-4 victory over Kelly Way Holland.

"I was looking for a stronger match actually,'' said Bradshaw. "I wasn't able to exercise my true game because the match didn't come to that level.

Kelly sort of slowed it up for some reason and I think she thought it would get me rattled or I'd lose a little bit of concentration.

"I was out to lunch for a couple of games in the second set, then I snapped back into it. It was so hot out there, it felt like 100 degrees.'' The victory by the often red-hot Way improves his record 2-1 in finals this year. He won the Heineken in May but was a loser to Ricky Mallory in the Pomander Gate Open in June.

"I played pretty well out there and never let (Curry) him into the match,'' said Way afterwards. "He didn't seem like he was moving very well so I was kind of moving him around. It was pretty easy, really.'' Way said Curry was unable "to get anything going'' and the key to his match was "the fact that I was seeing the ball so well. Plus, I've played him so many times that I knew I could beat him.'' Since next month's Grotto Bay Open has been postponed, the All Bermuda Open, scheduled from October 18 to 29, will be the final major tournament of the year.

Next on Way's agenda is his wedding day, with his marriage to Dana Delafield set for October 2, but he still expects to be in the ABTC line-up.
