Boulevard run St. David's ragged day
Like hungry lions licking their chops, Boulevard ripped into St. David's with rare savagery yesterday.
But their prey seemed surprisingly difficult to swallow.
What should have been a goal feast at St. David's became a routine 3-0 mauling.
Some fine goalkeeping by Dale Fox and wasteful shooting by Boulevard prevented the bloodbath everybody expected.
Boulevard had to satisfy their appetites with goals by Neil Robinson and Dean Boyles.
In between, was an unlucky own goal by St. David's defender Kenneth Wade.
The first half belonged almost exclusively to Boulevard who played St. David's off the park.
St. David's appeared mesmerised and intimidated by the blood-and-thunder style of their opponents.
Boulevard gained total mastery of the midfield. And in the first few minutes Fox knew he would be in for a busy afternoon.
He was forced to save from Dwight Warren in the third minute after the pacy striker ended a 20-yard run with a fierce shot.
Two minutes later the all-action Clinton Caisey sent the ball brushing past Fox's post after turning exquisitely in the box.
Caisey was to be a constant menace to St. David's, running rings around their defence.
In the 11th minute Fox was again in action -- this time punching the ball out of danger after Dean Boyles floated it into the box following a pass from Warren.
Moments later, Kenny Hill fluffed a good chance to open Boulevard's account.
He ran clear after being on the end of a passing movement between Caisey and Warren. But his shot failed to find the target.
St. David's prospects were not helped when Chuck Waldron was sidelined in the 13th minute with an asthma attack.
He was immediately replaced Reginald Pitcher.
It took until the 28th minute for St. David's to give Boulevard's goalkeeper Lynn Tucker anything to do.
A sweet move between Lionel Cann and Otis Minors finished with the former hitting the ball into Tucker's hands.
Boulevard were immediately back on the offensive, however.
Shortly after St. David's defender Garic Swainson headed off his line, Boulevard grabbed the long-awaited goal.
From around 15 yards, Neil Robinson side-footed the ball past Fox into the left-hand corner of the goal in the 36th minute.
The second half saw more of the same, with Boulevard having clearly the better of things.
In the 51st minute, Warren should have scored, but sent the ball flying past Fox's post from just 10 yards.
It was typical of the striker's afternoon. Nothing seemed to go quite right, despite all the effort.
St. David's had a great chance in the 64th minute to pull one back.
Amazingly, however, striker Lionel Cann sent the ball to the right of Tucker's post from just three yards.
It was an expensive miss, since St. David's rarely troubled Tucker from then on. Six minutes later, Boulevard's second goal came from an unlucky deflection off the legs of Kenneth Wade.
The ball rebounded into the net following a strike by Boulevard's Wayne Richardson.
Boulevard completed their goal tally with a well-taken shot by Dean Boyles 13 minutes from time.
