Triathletes' triple test

inaugural Hallowe'en Triathlon at Dockyard.. .but the competitor who can change their clothes quickest.

The novel event -- brainchild of seasoned triathlete Steven Petty -- will see the senior athletes complete no less than eight transitions as they attack a 200 metre swim, three mile bike and one mile run, three times.

Juniors (14 and under) face two laps of the course while the under-10s will complete one.

In the senior race, it's again likely to be a battle of teenagers as Saltus rivals Tyler Butterfield and Jonathan Herring go head to head, both already having won major events this season.

On form Butterfield might be given the nod but with the relatively short running distance, talented swimmer Herring could have an edge.

Among the women, the ever improving Laurie Orchard had not confirmed her entry by yesterday, and neither had Julia Hawley. Together they are seen as the Island's current top females.

But the junior field should be strong with Brian Steinhoff, Chris Conway, Adam Petty and Matthew Herring all expected on the start line. Sunday's race, the last of the triathlon season, gets underway at 1.30 p.m.
