are expected to pass the 1,000 mark.

Today is the deadline for protests to the plan unveiled in early July.

Planners yesterday said around 700 objections had already been lodged, but a last minute flurry was expected.

"We've had about 100 today, and more are likely. It's fairly typical for them to flood in late,'' a Planning spokesman said.

The plan is aimed at conserving open space, while providing sufficient development potential to meet the community's needs.

It splits Bermuda into development and non-development zones.

Most objections revolve on questions about the quality and extent of woodland identified in the plan.

Agricultural land definitions are also closely questioned.

The Planning spokesman said a public inquiry may be held if objections could not be ironed out.

Reviewing objections was a lengthy process. It may prevent Government from achieving a December 1993 target date for implementing the plan.
