Craig Astwood, of Khyber Heights Lane, pleaded guilty to travelling faster than five knots at Paradise Lakes in the Great Sound on June 2.

Marine Police saw a blue and white jet ski heading northwest at about 15 knots, Insp. Peter Duffy said. The craft was stopped.

Astwood when fined, mumbled: "$200 for a jet ski?'' Hearing this, Senior Magistrate the Wor. Will Francis said: "The size of the vehicle is not relevant. If you run over a swimmer, the result can be the same as with a 40-foot boat.

"If you rip along with a jet ski, how are you going to see anyone laying on a rubber float or snorkling?''
