One parent told The Royal Gazette that over 50 youngsters waited at the venue for over an hour before being informed that the event was cancelled.

"I'm really concerned about the fact that they've been away from having official meets since the (National) Stadium closed and then they organise something and the officials fail to show,'' said the parent.

She added that while national track coach Gerry Swan was present, Bermuda Track and Field Association vice-president Stan Douglas, who is believed to have been the meet organiser, never appeared.

Douglas could not be reached for comment on the allegations, but was said to have gone to the field earlier in the day to mark out the lanes.
