Bermuda juniors make it to finals
yesterday to advance to the finals of the Canadian Junior Golf Association Championships in Toronto.
Robinson, a 14-year student at Bermuda High School, easily defeated Canadian Veronica Lopez 7-and-5 in her semi-final while Mello edged out Canadian Jason Sudbury 2-up in their semi-final contest.
The three other locals participating Aaron James, Frazer Hunt and Chris Smith all made the cut but only Smith made it to the quarter-finals before losing out.
In today's 18-hole match-play final Robinson takes on Canadian Sarah Howard while 15-year-old Mello will meet another Canadian in Nicholas Kenney.
Robinson, who won her strokeplay division by four shots with rounds of 82, 77 and 81, said that she was in good spirits going into the final after her relatively easy triumph yesterday.
"My game was pretty good out there today. Mind you there is room for improvement because I wasn't nearly as sharp as I was during the second day's play when I shot a 77. But I am optimistic going into the final,'' she said.
The Bermuda contingent are scheduled to return home tomorrow.
