Two bright flares with smoke trails sighted last night by a number of local residents were traced to a rocket or missile launch from Cape Canaveral, Florida, a Harbour Radio officer confirmed.

The officer said at least 20 residents from around the Island had phoned in around 7 p.m. reporting they had seen two very bright lights in the sky with trails of smoke behind them.
