Julia Mercado, 28, and Lorraine Mergroni, 24, were accused of conspiring together with others not before the court to import cocaine to Bermuda on January 13. They were further charged with importation of cocaine on January 13 and possession of cocaine intended for supply.

They were not required to enter pleas to the offences, which must be tried in Supreme Court.

They were arrested for the alleged offences after arriving at the airport last Friday, Crown counsel Mr. Philip Storr said.

The two women said they were not legally represented yet, but were aware they could make application for legal aid.

Magistrate the Wor. Charles-Etta Simmons remanded them in custody for two weeks to February 2.
