Slovakian tour team capture Youth Cup
defeated Bermuda East Select 1-0 after extra time in the final at Bernard Park.
Striker Laco Luka scored the all-important goal a minute into the second period when he turned in a cross from the left past goalkeeper Nigel Burgess.
Until that goal, Bermuda had fought hard to match their skilful opponents, who have been together as a group for four years compared to just two weeks for the local side.
"One of the biggest problems for Bermuda was that we did not know about the competition until just two weeks ago and that was all the time we had to prepare,'' said East coach Jon Beard following the match.
"But if you look at the performance of the team it was tremendous. We had a few attitude problems to be sorted out, but beyond that we did very well.'' Beard also emphasised the need for Bermuda's youngsters to get more exposure against foreign clubs.
"I think what is needed for soccer to improve is more overseas competition.
They play each other far too often.'' Earlier Bermuda West Select triumphed in the consolation final, beating Green Tree Dragons of the United States 3-1.
Kurt Dowling netted twice for the victors and was aided by a single strike from Aaron Williams.
