Championships in Jamaica last week.

Tommy Sherratt was the outstanding player, winning two of his three matches in the men's A event, while team-mates Nick Kyme, Sam Stevens, Richard Brewer and Mel Caines all played their part.

Brewer and Stevens played superbly against the Bahamas to guarantee a Bermuda victory, while Kyme also played very well in narrow defeats against tough opponents Steve Smith of Jamaica, the Caribbean champion, and former Bermuda pro John MacRury, now playing for the Cayman Islands. Kyme then beat Lester Cox of the Bahamas 3-0.

The Island's veteran team of Rod Holloway, Phil Spencer, Roger Sherratt, Bob Stewart, Denise Kyme and Christine Barnes were more successful, placing second behind Jamaica.

Kyme, who won three out of three, was the only Bermuda player to win a match against Jamaica, while Spencer was voted the team's MVP.

A very young team represented the Island in the men's B event and finished last in their group.

Phil Barnes had played for Bermuda before, but Tony Pulpett, Kirby Smith, Chris Thornton and Jeff Carter were all making their debuts. Carter was the only one to win a match. Jamaica won the overall title.

"All the teams performed to the best of their ability in the stifling heat and more time to acclimatise might have made a big difference in the overall result,'' said Ross Triffitt, director of squash at the Bermuda Squash Racquets Association. "Overall things look very bright for the future of Bermuda squash in the Caribbean Championships next year.'' TRIATHLON Beginners and those who fancy trying a short-distance triathlon will be among the field in Sunday's Allcomers' Fun Triathlon.
